[Sustainable] design strategies
These strategies are broken down into three categories.
The first can be implemented to a product without fundamentally changing it too much.
The second requires rethinking the design of the product from the ground up.
The third goes beyond the product and requires a more systematic change.
1. Product optimisation
Product optimisation is a top-level approach. These changes can often be made after the design has been completed, or even when the product is already in production.
2. Design development
Prioritising sustainability as early as possible in the design process will result in the greatest reduction in impact of the end product.
3. System change
These strategies require us to think beyond the typical systems, to redesign products and services from the ground up, creating opportunities for truly circular design methods.
